Silently, through heavy snowfall
and delicate morning mists, the Medicine Wheel of the Bighorn Mountains in
Wyoming stands guard on a large rim overlooking the Valley of the Five
Springs. For over 10,000 years it has endured high above the timberline
and served as ancient man's pathway to the stars.
Indians used the medicine wheel
as a guide for hunting, planting and the spiritual needs of the tribe.
They also learned how to navigate and locate sacred
places precisely in the mountains and on the plains. They considered
these places to have extraordinary powers to help them survive.
